MELTING POT WORKSHOPS TILL NOW

On June 10, 2012, with the completion of its Storytelling workshop classes, (How it teaches communication in the modern world)- involving both parents and kids, Melting Pot completed successfully its third batch of workshops and the final one of the summer vacation special workshops of 2012.

Melting Pot, started in April this year (2012) and with a remarkable response, has successfully completed three sets of workshops on different topics of history, traditions and culture- involving both parents and kids. A big thanks for all the encouragement and to all my eager participants.

The endeavour was started 2 months back to reach out beyond classroom education and spread knowledge and awareness about the cultures and their traditions around us- and of course- also about their history and present- and at all times- referring to not only their tangible, but intangible heritage as well- a part which is often overlooked in history books.

THE WORKSHOPS HELD SO FAR OF MELTING POT-
(April-June, 2012)

1) Ancient Civilisations, Culture and Crafts (for kids only- 2 batches completed with a set of 7 classes each)-
These set of classes were divided into two sets of learning methods-

A) Learning about 6 ancient civisliation from across the globe (including China, Japan, Australia, Egypt, Greece and Aztec)- their culture, traditions, as well as learning through their folktales. Then making one culture symbol from each civilisation with the help of paper, twigs, colours, cardboard, magnets, etc.

B) Making a final project on the basis of various 'Printing Technologies of Different Ancient Cultures'- Where the kids made a final project of printings- inspired by the printing methods of the 6 civilisations that they studied in the earlier 6 classes. The prints were made on utility items so they can use them later on, e.g. t-shirts or mugs for display.

MATERIALS PROVIDED- Booklet prepared by me especially keeping the course in mind, all materials of crafts and computer presenatations.- ALL USEFUL FOR GENERAL KNOWLEDGE AND SCHOOL PROJECTS.

2) Storytelling- Its importance as an art of communication in today's world (for both parents and kids- one batch with a set of 4 classes)- learning from various Oral Traditions of the world- the method of listening and learning- between parent and child on one hand- and also to be a better communicator- especially the parent in his/her personal/work life.

MATERIALS PROVIDED- Booklet prepared by me especially keeping the course in mind and additional reading matters.

THE WEBPAGE ON FACEBOOK-

As the main website is underway, the Facebook page of Melting Pot receives regular updates from various Anthropologists, Archaeologists, Historians and Media persons from across the globe- some of whom are known to me and some of them totally unknown- but referred to the idea looking at the brilliant artworks on display in the webpage made by the participants. This was once again possible because of the hardwork of all the kids and the grown-ups.
